Inscribed since 2012 on UNESCO world heritage list, the marinid necropolis at Chellah is an historic site of Rabat. But it is also a mysterious and romantic place.
Approximately 2 km (1,2 mile) of the Rabat center, you will find one of the most interesting tourism places of the city : the marinid necropolis at Chellah. Erected in 1339, in the reign of Aboul Hassan Ali, on the remains of an ancient roman city, this site is nowadays regarded as "the most romantic of Morocco". Invaded by a luxuriant vegetation, the necropolis is made of numerous ruins - in particular Zaouia's ones -, but also of a minaret, graves, flowers-lined paths, trees, and a pond where swim fishes and tortoises.
