The Caves of Hercules: A mystery nearby Tangier
Situated at 14 km West from Tangier, the Caves of Hercules are stunning by their beauty but are above all full of mysteries.
The Caves of Hercules are not far from Tangier city centre and are without any doubt one of the most beautiful and enigmatic places in Morocco. From the inside, through the holes facing the Atlantic Ocean, you can see the sunset and the Strait of Gibraltar. Moreover, clues of prehistoric life and an archaeological mystery lie in this place. For now, no one knows who built these Caves that are partly artificial. Local beliefs tell that they are from an ancient civilisation. This myth is not the only one about the Caves of Hercules: some say that they are called after this mythological figure because he rested there after he accomplished his twelve labours.
You cannot miss the Caves of Hercules under no circumstances. To ease your trip there, rent a car in one of the two Hertz agencies in Tangier: in the Ibn Battouta Airport
